I changed my name in Japanese

Konnichiwa! I have decided to change how my surname is spelled in Japanese. Until 2022, I have been writing it as アガラワル but after putting great thought I have decided to write it as アグルワール. The former name when written in Romaji is “Agarawaru” but the new one is “Aguruwaaru”. …

Machines talk in Japan

Konnichiwa! Today I want to talk about another interesting aspect of Japanese society: Talking machines. Let me start with some examples: Elevators: Besides the usual ‘ting’ sound of an elevator when it stops at a particular floor, I noticed that sometimes the elevators spits out proper Japanese phrases: e.g. after…

Society is built upon trust

One of the best things I love about Japan is the high level of trust that exists in the society. I realised in my college that, the more one tries to exploit/misuse the existing system, the more rules, in other words, restrictions, are put onto the use of system. My…

Living Japan through Indian lens

Konnichiwa! I intend to write a series of blogs about my life in Japan as an ordinary “Salaryman” working in Tokyo particularly from the point of view of an Indian. I just graduated from an Indian engineering college and joined a company in Tokyo. I did a 2 month internship here last year summer and it was an amazing experience. I am particularly interested in how Japan is so ahead in many aspects like infrastructure, about Japanese culture and similarities and differences between India and Japan.
